The Asia Pacific Conference on National Medicines Policies will be held in Sydney, Australia from 26th to 29th May 2012. This conference is being held in collaboration with NPS: Better choices, Better health (Australia`s independent quality use of medicines implementation body), the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, the University of Newcastle and the World Health Organization.
The conference will provide the opportunity for countries in the Asia Pacific region to come together and share their knowledge, skills and experiences as they have moved to implement the various elements of their National Medicines Policies. Plenary sessions will provide a platform for interactive workshops which will include topics such as universal access to essential medicines, rational use of medicines, generic medicines, and the promotion of medicines.
We particularly encourage participation in the conference from those actively involved in national medicines policies in the Asia Pacific region. This will include policy makers, those working in Government, health professionals, researchers and academics, representatives of consumers/civil society, non-government organisations (NGOs), the pharmaceutical industry and those involved in quality use of medicines activities.
The call for abstracts is now open. All participants with accepted abstracts will be asked to prepare a poster presentation of their study which will be displayed for the duration of the conference and discussed during workshops on the relevant theme. The closing date for abstract submission is 15 January 2012.
As registrations will be limited to 300 participants, you are encouraged to register your interest to attend at your earliest convenience. It is expected that a limited number of scholarships will be awarded to assist delegates from low and middle income countries to attend the conference. Further details on the conference and registration procedures can be found at www.apcnmp2012.com.au.
